The Reading and Open Mic Series (ROMS) is our unique take on the reading event format. The event is split into two halves: a headlining portion where three scheduled authors perform their work, and then an open mic portion open to everyone.
For the headlining portion authors read original material in addition to their short responses to a common prompt. The authors also have their texts projected onto a screen behind them as they read. After a brief intermission, the open mic portion of the night begins. Open mic slots typically run 3-5 minutes, and we have a good mix of new faces and regulars from other Old Growth programs, including Writers Workshop participants. It’s a great way to meet fellow writers and get practice reading your material in front of a live audience!
Still curious? Take a look at a video documenting our first ROMS event:
The event takes place at the Jewel Box Theater at the Rendezvous in Belltown, and is bi-monthly. We have $5 suggested donation at the door, and we stock an entire table’s worth of OGNW journals and informational material. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive event announcements, and also be sure to check our Facebook page for RSVP-enabled event postings.
The Reading & Open Mic Series is coordinated and coordinated by Old Growth Northwest’s Board of Directors member Alex Osuch. Please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with any inquiries.
